Erika is an attending physician and researcher at the Centre hospitalier universitaire vaudois, University of Lausanne, Switzerland. She has worked as chief resident in the field of addiction medicine for the past 6 years in the Department of Psychiatry.
She contributed to the development of integrated care “under-one-roof” of HIV and HCV infections in people with co-occurring mental disorders and drug use.
She is board certified in internal medicine and completed a PhD degree in tropical medicine at the Oswaldo Cruz Institute in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Throughout her journey in Venezuela and Switzerland she has worked with other patient populations as migrants, MSM and sex workers.
Her current research interest concerns testing and treatment strategies for hepatitis C as well as global health of people who use drugs.
Erika is also committed to different medical education efforts within Switzerland and abroad as a member of the UNODC trainer team.
