HIV Treatment and Prevention in People who use Drugs

This session highlighted recent innovations in HIV treatment and prevention, emphasising the growing role of long‑acting ART regimens and differentiated service delivery in improving outcomes for people who use drugs. Advances in PrEP, including long‑acting injectable options such as cabotegravir and the emerging use of lenacapavir as PrEP, were presented as highly effective and acceptable alternatives to daily oral dosing. Together, these innovations – when integrated with harm reduction and community‑based care – offer important opportunities to enhance persistence in treatment and prevention, supporting sustained engagement and equity for people who use drugs.
